Shallow Water
Copper wire, beech leaf, magnet, electronics
2023 · Klang Moor Schopfe — Gais (CH)
Shallow Water is composed of hundreds of dried beech leaves, systematically arranged on a circular wooden surface two meters in diameter. Each leaf is mounted on a pin, elevating it a few centimeters above the surface. A miniature electromagnetic system, consisting of a magnet and a copper coil, is integrated into each element.
Each leaf responds to a random micro-impulse. This interaction creates a slight movement and a variable percussive sound. The installation explores tactile vibration without direct contact, embodied through the physical presence of the leaves. Together, these independent sound points generate a subtle sonic landscape, inviting attentive listening—on the threshold of silence—in order to perceive space and distance.
